Bike Month is Here!
Celebrate Cycling all month long by joining us for activities that inspire us to ride more and connect to each other.
Event details are on the HBC Event Calendar (on the right side of this page).
Wednesday, May 17: Ride of Silence, 7 p.m. John Carroll University to University Circle
This is an annual slow, silent memorial ride to honor those injured or killed while riding their bicycles. East side bicyclists start from John Carroll University SE parking lot, then ride via Fairmount Boulevard through University Heights, Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights to University Hospitals on Adelbert Road, to meet riders from downtown at 7:30 p.m. for a brief ceremony.
Friday, May 19: Bike to Work Day
Heights Bicycle Coalition will host a tent stocked with free coffee and pastries at the corner of Edgehill and Overlook Roads in Cleveland Heights in support and celebration of bicycle commuting. Drop by for a visit while you’re pedaling to work!
Saturday, May 20: Smart Cycling Class, 9 a.m. – noon, Cleveland Heights City Hall, 40 Severance Circle
Heights Bicycle Coalition and the City of Cleveland Heights will offer the League of American Bicyclists’ Smart Cycling course, taught by a League of American Bicyclists Certified Instructor. The class is for all experience levels – new riders who want to gain skills and experienced cyclists who want to refine their skills and teach others. The class will prepare riders aged 14 or older to commute, run errands and have fun on bicycles. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $10 per individual or per family, which includes one manual.
Register here. Questions? Contact Joy.
Monday May 29, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: HBC will host a bike contingent in the University Heights Memorial Day Parade. We need a few more folks on bike to join us. We’ll throw candy and ride with spoke cards attached (with clothespins) to our frames for a cool sound. We also need a few volunteers to hand out bike info cards to spectators. Interested? Contact Joy.
Saturday, June 3: Free Bike Tune Up day, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Coventry Village Courtyard, Coventry Road and Euclid Heights Boulevard
With the support of Coventry Village, Hirobel and Heights Bicycle Coalition, volunteer bike mechanics assess bicycles’ safety and make minor repairs at this FREE event. Hirobel is a Cleveland Heights company dedicated to creating innovative tools and accessories that provide advanced solutions for today’s bicycles, such as its Carbon Frame Clamp.
